The unknown in any situation can be a little scary and a meditation/sound therapy class is no exception. I want you to feel welcome, at ease upon arrival, and go away looking forward to the next session and your own personal practice, therefore I've listed just a few things that may help you prepare for your first session.
Kaizen...uplevel your life one small meditative step at a time!
Group Session-What to Expect

Lets talk about Meditation and Sound
If you’ve ever found meditation tricky or felt like you were doing it “wrong,” you’re not alone... and that’s exactly why I guide it differently. What I offer isn’t about clearing your mind or sitting in silence for hours. It’s about helping you shift into a new experience... one that feels natural, soothing, and deeply supportive.
Sound is a big part of how I work. Crystal bowls, gongs, gentle rhythms... they’re more than just beautiful tones. These sounds speak to the body and the energy system in a language beyond words. They soften the edges of your day, quiet the thinking mind, and open a doorway to something deeper... something still and spacious within.

We’ll also explore what happens in the brain when we meditate and how sound can deepen this experience by gently guiding your mind into a state of calm and focus, sometimes leading to altered states of consciousness where profound relaxation and insight can occur. Not too much science, just enough to help you understand why meditation, especially when paired with sound, can be such a powerful practice. Just as movement strengthens the body, this is a kind of inner training... a way to restore balance, clarity, and calm.
What matters most to me is that you feel safe, supported, and confident in your practice. I’ll guide you through what you might experience, including how to navigate emotions or memories that may rise to the surface, and all the ways this work can support your wellbeing.

This is more than a practice... it’s a journey inward. And I’m here to walk beside you as you discover the magic that’s been within you all along.
Comfort
It’s really important that you feel completely comfortable throughout the session. If you’re not, you might get fidgety or start to ache, which could make you move around more than you’d like.

You won’t be expected to sit in a lotus position… we’ll usually begin with a gentle guided meditation while seated, before moving into a comfortable lying-down position as the sound begins.

Please bring along anything that helps you relax and feel supported, like cushions, yoga mat and a blanket to keep you warm. If you would like to sit up throughout the whole session, I highly recommend a fold-up meditation seat with back support... but really, whatever makes you feel fully supported and comfortable is perfect.
Clothing
You do not need to wear feather earrings, shave your head or wear a robe but if you so wish you can! Wear clothing that you feel comfortable in, soft clothes that do not dig in are advisable.
Hydration
Please bring a bottle of water. Although I won't be entering you into a session that involves jumping up and down and breaking into a sweat! (as much fun as that might be) the unknown can cause you to feel more thirsty and it's also good practice to make sure you stay hydrated.
Group Size
I’m keeping the meditation and sound sessions to a maximum of 30 people. I hope this makes the experience feel more inviting... especially if you’re new to this kind of practice... and it means I can keep my voice soft while guiding you through the meditation part, I've no plans to shout through a megaphone (though the image of that does make me giggle!). Just spaciousness, stillness, and sound to help you unwind and journey inward.
Atmosphere
In our sessions, I’ll be guiding you through meditation supported by sound.

You don’t need incense, candles or complete silence to meditate... and you definitely don’t need to sit cross-legged on the floor. Meditation can happen anywhere, and part of what I share is how to take your practice with you into everyday life.

That said, to help you feel more relaxed and less conscious of your surroundings, I may use soft lighting, LED candles (they’re pretty… and no fire risk!) and gentle sound to support the experience. You might hear crystal bowls, gongs, or other soothing tones in the background... not to send you to sleep, but to help your mind slow down and your body settle.

The idea of meditation isn’t to drift off... it’s to fall awake. But don’t worry if you doze off now and then... even Tibetan monks have nodded off mid-practice!

Journal
You may wish to take notes and also journal your experience after each session. This can help focus your awareness on the experience, while also identifying any challenges you may face and moments you enjoy. If you wish to journal or take notes, please bring a pen and paper… alternatively you may wish to invest in a proper journal which you can also use for your own daily meditation practice. I remember looking back through my own 12-week journal, the positive changes I noticed within myself were motivational enough for me to continue my practice, and become a meditation teacher and sound therapist.
Finally
Meditation is for anybody, you don't have to be anything you are not, so be yourself. Enjoy your moments in meditation and allow yourself to enter a beautiful, peaceful, healing place of bliss.
